Charter Day in 1907 Photos

Charter Day was established in 1905 to commemorate the establishment of the institution by the NY State legislature.

May 5 was the date picked by former President John H. Finley to celebrate the establishment of the school. There used to be a college-wide assembly in the Great Hall in the morning and a student-faculty softball game in the afternoon.

Freedom of Information (FOI) Day

March 16th is Freedom of Information (FOI) Day, an annual event on the birthday of James Madison, who is widely regarded as the Father of the Constitution and as the foremost advocate for openness in government. New York State government has been looking at issues of open access to information recently, considering NYSHEI’s Taxpayer Access to Publicly Funded Research (TAPFR) legislation, which may come to a vote around FOI Day.

CCNY Women Make Art 2015: Call for Submissions

womenart2015blog

The CCNY Art Department in collaboration with the CCNY Archives and Special Collections Division and the Graduate Art History Society are happy to announce the annual exhibition, CCNY Women Make Art. All CCNY Women (students, alumni, faculty, and staff) are welcome to submit works of art for the exhibition that will open on March 16th, 2015.

This year we are hoping to focus the exhibition on the past, present and future of feminism and how the history of the movement is constantly redefined by the efforts of artists, scholars, philosophers, and revolutionaries. Our aim is not to seek a definitive explanation of feminism, but to demonstrate how generational urgencies are expressed in various artistic media. We encourage a wide interpretation of the theme.

Guidelines for submissions:

-Each participant is allowed to submit a maximum of 3 works. Because of space limitations, we can only guarantee that 1 work of art from each artist will make it into the exhibition.
-All artwork must post-date 2013.
-All artwork submitted must be ready to hang or display, i.e. paintings, photography, and other 2-D objects must be framed or matted and equipped with a hook. There is limited space for 3-D sculptures, and installations but we will do our best to accommodate works with special display instructions. If you are planning to submit a digital or new media piece, please contact us ahead of time.*
-Artwork must be submitted to the Cohen Library Archives (5th floor) on Wednesday February 25th or Friday February 27th between the hours of 11am-5pm.
-Following the closing of the exhibition, all artwork must be picked up from the archives on
April 1-3, 2015 between the hours of 11am-5pm.
*If you have any questions about the submission guidelines, please email: CCNYArtHistory@gmail.com
