In a July 21st article, a “radical shake-up” of academic journals is envisioned, partly based on the success of the Public Library of Science and partly on the British government’s recent announcement that beginning in 2013, “the results of taxpayer-financed research would be available, free and online, for anyone to read and redistribute.” Read the full article.

New Databases & Content
We have added two new databases: Burney Collection of British newspapers from the 17th and 18th Century and National Geographic Archive (covering 1888-1994). And, more content has been added to two of our databases: Eighteenth Century Collection Online and Making of the Modern World. All are published by Gale, and are listed in our Databases A-Z list by title.

This new service augments the Library’s subscription to the Optical Society of America’s journals with a media library and an archive. It also has a members directory, social networking groups and discussion forums, and resources for finding post-doctoral assignments & internships. Registration is free.
